The first seven episodes of the final season arrive on Friday (the second seven will be available later in the year), and they are easy to breeze through. But the kids are fully committed criminals at this point. Adding to the horror show that was Episode 7’s closing moments, Javi also murdered Wyatt’s newly-minted (albeit far from virtuous) bride Darlene. Beyond all these plot points that ensure the Byrdes will remain in the crime cycle, the finale reminds us that such destruction is a family affair. Over the course of the show, both Jonah and Charlotte sought an escape from their parents, the former through Ben and later Ruth, the latter through emancipation back in season 2. In the finale, Wendy promises she won’t “trap” her children inside the beast she and Marty have built.
What happens to Clare Shaw?
Jonah later tells her that Javi was responsible for killing Wyatt. Upon the second half of the season, Ruth murdered Javi after learning what he had done. In retaliation, Javi’s mother followed her home and killed her. After Wyatt's death, she inherited his estate as well as Darlene's, whom he married ahead of his death.
Why did Ruth have to die in Ozark?
The retired Republican Senator was Marty and Wendy’s only hope at removing Omar from the SDN list. He only agreed to remove Omar from the list if the Byrdes helped him commit widespread fraud through his grandson’s vote suppressing voting machines. Now that the happy reunion is out of the way, let’s talk politics.
Enter Camila, the new boss

When she comes back outside, though, Nelson is gone. Realizing the man is after Rachel, she calls her new business partner and warns her of what's coming, telling her to get a gun and climb up to the trailer roof. Rachel does this, and when Nelson arrives, shoots him down. Ruth then buries him under the concrete of her swimming pool.
She knows what's coming, but is defiant 'till the end. ""I'm not sorry," she tells Camila. "Your son was a murdering bitch. And I now I know where he got it from." Camila shoots Ruth right in the heart. As the petition to remake the last season of Game of Thrones shows, devoted fan bases can be difficult to please.

It turns out Marty didn't do a good job cremating Ben, which means the remains are identifiable. At the end of Episode 14, he breaks in to the Byrde household to steal the goat cookie jar that has Ben's remains. He thinks there is enough DNA in the jar to confirm that it contained what was left of Ben—which would also prove that the Byrdes knew he was dead this whole time. Added to that, the word byrde in old english describes someone who is strong, well-born, noble or rich. If the Byrdes are indeed a symbol for wealth, status and privilege, the decision to keep them alive and relatively unscathed tells us that the rich and powerful always come out on top.
At the end of Ozark season 4 part 1, Ruth ferociously avowed that she would kill Javi as revenge for the murder of her cousin. But when part 2 begins, there's some doubt over whether she'll really do it. She seems to be weighing her options, and Three (Carson Holmes) even tells her that Wyatt wouldn't want her to do this.
Ozark deaths: Who died in Ozark season 4?
It turns out it wasn't a dream -- or anything important. The crash happens in the middle of the final episode, but improbably, no one is hurt. It comes after one of season four part two's biggest subplots, that of Wendy's dad Nathan Davis trying to get custody over Jonah and Charlotte. He plays the part of concerned grandpa, and Wendy has a breakdown that sends her straight into a mental health facility. As the Byrde family takes the stage at their gala, Ruth Langmore is confronted outside her home by Camila.

One of the guards then kills the other, opens the door, gives Navarro a gun, and tells him to leave. It seems the cartel boss is being rescued and the Byrdes' plans are once again about to fall apart, but it's not that simple. The guard then cocks a gun, drawing Navarro's attention, and the boss realizes his gun is empty of bullets and he's going to be killed. Navarro is transferred from his prison, and on the way, one of the guards kills the other and gives the cartel boss a gun, urging him to run. The gun the guard gave him is empty – it was all part of a plan to stage the scene to look like a prisoner attempting to escape. Believing Camila was responsible for the attempt on his life, Navarro gives Marty the number of a Chicago hitman to call to come “take care of” her.
Back along the lake, Ruth shares a sweet scene with her family members, all but one of them—her cousin Three (Carson Holmes)—imagined. (The others have fallen, one by one, to the Byrdes’s machinations over the seasons.) In hindsight, I should have known this moment would serve as our emotional farewell to one of the show’s best characters. Omar Navarro himself goes down in the final episode of Ozark. It's all because of that deal with the FBI – after Javi is killed, it's off. The Byrdes try to renegotiate another one with Navarro and the Bureau, but for that they'd need to get the cartel boss off a list that stops the US government doing business with him. That proves to be too complicated, so the Byrdes switch angles to Camila instead.
The Byrde children left their grandfather and visited Wendy in the mental hospital, a move that eventually led to them agreeing to return to their parents. Just remember that on top of everything else, Marty and Wendy owe Ruth for their children. Things are going to get dark, so why not start on a nice note? Part 2 saw the arrival of Nathan (Richard Thomas), Wendy’s (Laura Linney) estranged and abusive father.
She threatens Clare Shaw (Katrina Lenk), along with Marty and Wendy Byrde, and gathers them all in the pharmaceutical boss's office. There, she holds them at gunpoint until Wendy calls Javi (she later reasons to Marty that it was inevitable anyway). Wendy lures Javi over, and when he arrives, Ruth immediately shoots him and kills him. "Del" was the Byrde family's first handler when Marty first proposed the move to the Ozarks. He ultimately worked towards the interests of the Navarro cartel, and wasn't too concerned about doing whatever it took to ensure Marty delivered on his promise to launder drug money.
She agrees, despite learning Navarro wasn't the one who killed her son. Ahead of the finale being released, Jason Bateman teased it was kinda a "happy ending" but the Byrde family come out of it "limping". Corruption, wealth and power - which the Byrde family comes to represent - clearly wins in the end and the family are united. It’s right that Wendy should be the one to shut him down, with Linney’s signature prim delivery.
It seems the Byrdes' problems are never truly over, even when they come out on top. Marty goes to Ruth and tells her Navarro is going to be out of the picture and he can keep her safe, which of course he's said many times before. He says they're meeting with the FBI to get Navarro out, but he needs Ruth to continue to money launder out of the casino for them. "I always have time for my f---ing government," she says, agreeing to the meeting in a way that only Ruth can.
Ruth doesn't even seem surprised or sad — and she's definitely not sorry. "Your son was a murdering bitch, and now I know where he got it from," she bravely tells Camila, who raises the gun, but doesn't shoot. "Well, are you going to f—ing do this s—t or what?" Ruth finally screams at her. These end up being the famous last words from our favorite sailor-mouthed character, as a bullet pummels her in the chest, staining her perfect white dress deep red. Just when it looks like he's actually going to escape (a guard hands him a gun and tells him there's a plane up the road), it's all revealed to be a set up.
We wanted to tap into the political side of her in Season 2, because that was in her past. But then we started putting her childhood [baggage] into the mix, and it just happened organically. You look at what she can do and make look effortless and you just keep feeding it. TVLINE
